Black Birds
BLACK BIRDS
This morning I saw a group of black birds along the side of the road. I noticed that one of the birds had a bag of Doritos. Either selfishly or ignorantly unskilled, the bird was trying to keep the contents. I watched as other birds attempted to get to the bag as the bird moved away from the group. With beak raised in the air as high as possible, no other bird was going to get any of the crunchy snacks. So moving purposely, passionately, and being pursued the bird kept the contents away from all others. The sad part, I never saw the bird in possession of the bag of Doritos enjoy the contents either.
It is sad that we have been brought to be in community for the purpose of development, growth, expression, and advancement but we too are like the black bird. We either ignorantly or selfishly keep the contents of our bag away from others that can benefit. In the process, we do not enjoy the fulness of community. Community is best when it is lived in such a way that those who are on the journey with us can experience the joy that we have found. Community is at its height when we turn the bag upside down and let others eat from our efforts.
